Herondines

14 May

Today I am in Selsey and there are lots of herondines. Mostly swallowses and house martinses. As you might expect herondines are all members of the heron family.

Swallowses and house martinses are the heralds of summer, bringing with them the sun. Literally. Those long feathers on a swallow tail are for towing sunlight. Without swallows the Earth would be plunged into an eternal night.

A female house martin is called a house martine.

Here endeth the lesson.
