Curlew Sandpiper

31 May

So yesterday I gone up Titchfield Haven and seen some birds but better than that there was this bloke with a wooden leg who I think was a pirate or something and all the woodpeckers were pecking at his leg and it kept getting shorter and he could only walk in circles and then he fell over and the pirate police caught him and he said “Well I’ll be stumped.” or something. I had a jacket potato with beans for lunch there.

Great White Egret

31 Aug

Today I gone to Blashford Lakes and seen lots of things including a great white egret. It would have been good but my back hurts and there were lots of people there and some spoke to me and I was all like “Yes, I am baldmonkey off of baldmonkeyseenabird.” and “No, you cannot have my autograph I hate you for having an awful hobby like birdwatching when you are clearly capable of talking to other people. You disgust me.”

Ashdown Forest

3 Aug

Today I gone all the way to Ashdown Forest for nothing. I think I heard a hawfinch at one point near Ashdown Forest Centre and I thought a common tern was something more exciting at Weir Wood Reserve. But neither of them were worth the petrol. I really hate birds. I bet they are all rubbish at Deer Hunter on their phones. Not like me. I am great at killing imaginary wildlife, me. They should bear that in mind next time.

Ashdown Forest is where Winnie The Pooh was originally filmed by Automobile Association Milne. I can see where he got the name from; there was dog crap everywhere.

Jason and the Garganauts

17 May

Today I gone up Titchfield Haven and I seen a garganey. A garganey is a duck. Other ducks include mallards and other mallards. A garganey is not a mallard. But it is a duck.

I also got a decent bit of sign spotting done. Sign spotting is brilliant. It’s took me 383 days to get to 129 species in conventional bird seening. With sign spotting I am on 90 species after just 7 days. And I don’t even need to be able to identify the birds myself, because it says their names right next to the pictures.

Lesser Spotted Woodpecker

27 Jul

Look, I been up Blashford Lakes most of the day and we’ve got a fair bit to go through, so if it’s okay with you, I’ll just try and chug through it all. I mean, I don’t enjoy this anymore than you do and if we don’t crack on we could be here all night.

Right so I seen this splendidly male lesser spotted woodpecker.

So and I seen these nuthatches.

I seen pheasant and all.

And a coal tit.

And I seen a few blue tits. This decent one.

And also this mutant no head feather mutant blue tit. Like all ugly things it will die in the Autumn.

I seen this great crested grebe with its babies on its back and another great crested grebe was catching fish and feeding the babies. I can’t tell which is the male and which is the female. I reckon the male is the one hunting for fish. That’s what I’d do in his situation.

I seen this female chaffinch.

And I seen these proper chaffinches.

I seen an collared dove.

I seen a female tufted duck and some baby tufted ducks and then the female tufted duck and the baby tufted ducks together.

And a black headed gull with a young black headed gull.

And I seen a load of common terns doing catching a fishes.

And I seen great tit, coot, goldfinch, greenfinch, mute swan and robin which are all unremarkable and that.

Then I seen a few I weren’t sure about like this thing next to a blur.

And these probably-a-blackbirds.

Then I seen a thing in a reed bed what I don’t know at all.

And also I seen a spider which is not a bird.

On the way home I been to Testwood Lakes quick to see what it is like and I seen geese and gulls.

I seen a heron and a crow.

I seen a cormorant.

And I seen a load of sand martins.

I reckon I’ll go there another time again too.

So, yeah.

Little Egret

22 May

Went to Broadmarsh again. Seen this little egret. An egret is like a heron but small and white. He was fishing.

I also seen this tern I am pretty sure it is a common tern. It could be an arctic tern but the underside of the wings didn’t really seem to have a distinct white section so I reckon it was a common tern. He was fishing too.

Later I seen this male house sparrow. He’s ace. I called him Timothy.

What would you call a male house sparrow? Male house sparrows do not fishing, okay?
